We had Mackie only 5 years but he was well loved.
He came to us when he was found at a local fuel station by my Daughter.
She made enquiries and learned that two days earlier employees there had witnessed him falling from the back of a truck and being run over by the car following behind. Sadly nobody stopped and none of the employees called a vet and he wandered in pain for two days.
Lucky for Mack my daughter runs a large rescue/shelter and she took him in immediately.
The beginning was rough, he was sent from the vet to the pound ( confiscated from rescue ), and no pain relief and we had to wait 7 days to see if anyone would claim him before we could get him out.
From there he went to several foster carers who couldn't cope with his level of destruction and he was confiscated from them, yes, foster carers were mean to him.
He came to us when my old dog passed away, he came temporarily to keep our recently adopted female company and he stayed...............
He had a terrible turn Sunday night, couldn't get up. All the damage from his accident had come to a head really and the nerves in his back and hips paid the price. He had been on arthritis treatment for some time and he had been quite wobbly and weak in recent times, all may have been avoided if he'd had treatment initally to reset his hip, instead of being sent to the pound, yes, vets can be very cruel too....... We are really sad at his loss but he was spoiled and loved with us. The vets best estimate is that he was around 16yo, really old for a GSD x of any type x
